1st Jul 2010 - Works commence to the roof podiums at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham

Works have commenced to spread 230 tonnes of decorative aggregates across three roof podiums at the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. These works were added to Blakedown’s existing contract with Balfour Beatty, in which they have been carrying out the soft landscaping to the new hospital for the past 16 months.

The works to the roof podiums has involved careful planning and consideration due to their location and the access restrictions in place now that the hospital is partially open.

The aggregates are being lifted on to the roofs by crane and transported across a 170m conveyor belt system supplied by A Plant.

Works commenced on 28 June 2010 and are due for completion by 13 August 2010.
